Laptop wont connect to my 5g network even with correct password.

My laptop (an older IBM thinkpad) see's my 5g connection, but won't take the password that lets it connect to the same network on 2.4g. I know it will work with a 5g connection cause i had it on 5g when i was in hawaii. Please help

If you have connected to that network before, tell it forget the network and reinput the credentials.

Often times, even though the password is re-inputed, it has cached settings about encryption type and other settings, and thus if anything was changed, even if the password is the same, it wont work until your forget it and let it create a new entry.

If the laptop was shipped maybe something has come loose inside.

Make and model router? Do other devices connect without problems?

What passwords did you set up on the router? [Do not mean for you to post the passwords - just think about how you selected them and set them up.]

Did you, for example use the same password for 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz?

Or did you do some minor password variation to associate the password with the wireless frequency?

Did you happen to do any router resets after the move? If so, then you must start over and reconfigure the router and laptop accordingly.

If not, then double check your Thinkpad's wireless configuration settings.

Try to find some error message or pop-up screen related to the connection failure.

My laptop see's the 5g, but wont accept the password, which is the same as the 2.4g password- which it does accept fine.

The passwords are the same as they've always been.

I get that, but if the 5g network settings (not password) changed, or if for whatever reason the computer thinks the settings are changed, correct password or not, it wont connect.
Do like I suggested and tell the computer/device to "forget" the network, and allow it to create a new entry for it.
