DDR3 2GB vs DDR5 1GB (compatibility and performance)

So I bought a GeForce GT 710 2GB DDR3 graphics card for my new pc build wondering if it would be better than my old gpu. Then I realised that my old gpu (I have no idea if its damaged, and its a HD7850 1gb) had 1GB DDR5 memory... Now I dont know if I wasted a shit load of money for a gpu thats nearly 4x smaller and crappier. Well there goes my saving up. Last question I have is if you have ddr3 ram and your motherboard supports ddr3 memory, can you stick a ddr5 gpu into the motherboard?

If you guys find a good graphics card up to around $130-$300 pls tell meh.

Old pc specs:
Intel core i5 3350p
DDR5 Gigabyte HD7850 1gb
DDR3 hyperx 10th anniversary edition
ASROCK B75M-GL motherboard
Windows 10

New pc specs :
Intel core i5 3350p
MSI GeForce GT 710 2GB DDR3
DDR3 hyperx 10th anniversary edition
(Im probably upgrading to 8gb)
MSI MS-7797 motherboard
Windows 10

Hi,

For any modern gaming, you need a x50(for nvidia) minimum for descent frame and graphic quality at 1080.
Any card underneat that won't work or slow to a crawl.

Also, modern games will require 2 gb ram in order to start the game. It really depends on what games you play and what the rest of the computer is.

If it's for internet, watching video. Any of these cards should be fine.

It's not DDR5 it's GDDR5, there is no such thing as DDR5 system RAM yet. DDR4 is the latest. GDDR5 is graphics memory and yes a GDDR5 memory GPU can be used on a system using DDR3 memory.

Like said above the GT 710 is slower than an HD 7850 despite the 710 having more memory. The 1050 ti is a good GPU in your price range.

You ALWAYS need to look at benchmarks comparing the gpu's. Just because it has 4gb of ddr5 doesn't mean it's a good gpu. There are a bunch of cheap crappy gpu's with a lot of memory out there to sucker people into buying them thinking they are a good card on the cheap.

You have asked the same question about the GT 710 in two separate threads, and have gotten answes.

Now you've started this thread.

Don't do that.
