Hi everyone.

Planning to add a 4GB DDR4 ram to my 8gb (2 x 4gb) PC. Due to budget issues, I might be able to only add a 1 x 4GB stick (identical to the rams I previously bought). I am just wondering if I will get any performance issue because due to the fact that I will be having 3 x 4gb sticks now? Will there be any instability or stress in the memory controller? or in my rig itself?

Thanks in advance.

You're not going to damage or break anything at all.

You will however lose dual channel support because of an uneven number of memory DIMMS, which does affect performance. Its even possible that certain memory intensive programs may even run slower. Its far preferable to add memory in pairs.

Judging from your answers, looks like I need to push my way in getting another set of 2 x 4gb kit. Kinda worried about having performance issues too.

Thanks a lot for the replies.
