Is FSP Aurum S 500W 80+ Gold PSU enough for Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming

Hi guys! I'm going to buy Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming. Can this PSU (FSP Aurum S 500W 80+ Gold) handle with it? I've heard several opinions so far. Some people say YES, others NO, and I'm confused.

My current specs:
FSP Aurum S 500W 80+ Gold
Asus Prime Z270-P
i5-7600K
Gigabyte GTX 1060 3GB G1 Gaming
Samsung 960 EVO M.2 250GB
Seagate BarraCuda 1TB
4x 120mm fan
1x 120mm LED fan

Efficiency doesn't mean it delivers less, it just means it would draw more. For example at max load your PSU can deliver 500w, but will draw ¬555W from the wall.
Also, calculations by adding each components maximum rated wattage doesn't really work. Because your system will almost never have full load on every component.
At a gaming load, that GTX 1060 system would consume ¬250w, while the GTX 1080 system consumes about 300w.


Though the result is still the same, 500w is enough for your system.
Some people will tend to say "No" if they don't recognise the brand name (because brand name is very important where PSUs are concerned), but FSP do in fact make some excellent PSUs. You will be fine with that one, it's powerful enough for your build and is good quality.

So I understand that there will be no problems if I upgrade to gtx 1080, right?

It recommends 500w, so why are you suggesting 600-650???

The build would even be fine with a quality 450w unit. You are overestimating the power draw components use.
 


Power supplies degrade over time. If you barely meet the requirements now, will you still meet them when the PSU is a year or two old? Maybe not then and maybe not now. The cost difference between a 500 watt and a 600 watt is negligible .

Proof? Because as far as I know, they don't. That is why many brands guarantees their high quality product to run 24/7 at max rating.

No, that is recommended. And they have to account for crappy PSUs and demanding CPUs + rest of system. For this system 350w would be required as minimum. 500w is way more than enough.

So, I made some calculations and the current system (with gtx1060) uses 332W. That's mean the same system with gtx1080 should use 392W. This PSU has efficiency more than 90% (450W) and it will be enough for gtx1080.

Perhaps you should gain some experience then before stating otherwise. Do power supplies last forever? Of course they don't.
