Volume Icon Missing

Windows 8.1 Professional, 64 bit.

About a month ago, my volume icon which usually shows up when I hit the "Show Hidden Icons" arrow, disappeared. I can get the Volume Mixer to come up by typing volume mixer in the search bar. Back when I still had the volume icon, I would just click on that to get the Volume Mixer to come up.

I have gone into Control Panel/All control panel items/Notification Area Icons/System Icons, and the Volume icon is set to Off under Behaviors, and it is grayed out, meaning I cant set it to On. Same is true with the Power Icon, but that doesn't matter to me. I have hit "Restore default icon behaviors", but it still leaves the volume off and grayed out.

Has anyone had this issue?

Solution
Update: Solved. I rebooted the computer and now the volume icon is back on the taskbar. I have no idea what caused it to vanish in the first place. Normally I hibernate the computer rather than shutting it down.

If someone could pick as solution, then this thread can be closed.
