Hard drive stops being detected (during use)

I am having an issue with my hard drive. I have two drives on my computer, an SSD with windows and large mechanical drive for storage. My computer seems to have trouble connecting to the mechanical drive at times. The hard drive will be detected fine at launch, but then after some time (maybe on the order of an hour/hours) it is no longer detected. I cannot find it in device manager or in the file explorer. If I reboot my computer, the device is found and accessible like it should be. Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Solution
Hi there!
Check your HDD temps and run a benchmark to determine whether it is an HDD error. Next, swap the SATA cables. Do you have another PC to move the HDD to?
