I am looking for assistance on finding an appropriate PSU for my build without worry for maybe another upgrade or two down the road. Preferably suitable for my current set up tho. PSU calculators recommend a PSU above 550 watts i currently have an older cooler master 600 watt non modular unit. Some items are being shipped right now.

This is indeed my first post on toms hardware as well so my apologies if things are confusing.

Build list

Fractal meshify C

MSI Gaming 7 X99A

MSI GTX 1060 (in transit fed ex)

Corsair H100i (in transit fed ex)

i7 5960x 8 core 3.00 ghz

2 120mm fans

2 128gb crucial ssds (a 1tb will be on its way soon..)

8 sticks of 16gb ddr4 2400 ram

Any help finding a sustainable PSU would be greatly appreciated, thank you toms hardware community!

Would like any input on the build aswell relating to temp!

Normal usage as in 99% of the time at a gaming load. Alot of the time the computer is idle aswell. So if the max consumption as you say is 570w, that still leaves 80w for a 650w PSU. And that would be well under 1% of the time using the computer and only found if you're trying to put your system at max draw, where as most manufacturers guarantee 24/7 operation at full load on quality PSUs. And I'd love to argue on 120w for everything but CPU + GPU....

But you're only proving the fact that 650w is perfectly capable here.

do you already have these parts, or are you planning in buying them?

cooler master power supplies are generally poor to mediocre, replace it if it is not their V series

yes any decent 550w unit will do

Yes all have been purchased I am just waiting on my gpu and corsair cooler in the mail. I will be gaming full hd non 4k for right now. The pc is put together rn and has windows 10 pro on it. Running that coolermaster along with stock intel cpu cooler and ancient graphics card i collected just to boot the thing and get it ready for my msi gtx 1060 and cpu cooler. Therefor with the new graphics card and cooler im needing to know a safe and optimal wattage psu for this build.

Any one of these will do, personally i would go with the G2 then G3. I dont like corsair as a company but they do make good products so i added them to the list.

If you plan to oc the cpu and install a 250+w gpu :

No single GPU system would ever need 750w. Unless the PSU is equal price or less and same if not better quality than a lower wattage power supply, it is just a waste with no benefits.

im needing to know a safe and optimal wattage psu for this build.

What makes a power supply safe isn't the wattage. Look at quality, found through professional reviews, not wattage. A high quality 550w unit would be much better than a crappy 750w unit.

Think of comparing a GTX 1050 with 20GB of VRAM compared to a GTX 1080ti with 11GB of VRAM. Which is better?

What is your budget?
Is modularity, efficiency, or silence a concern to you?
Where are you located?

Corsair doesn't make psus. They subcontract to OEMs like Seasonic, FSP etc. and slap their own brand on the sticker.

650w already gives 300w or so of headroom. If overclocking hard + custom loop still atleast 200w headroom. No need for another 100w, that is just wasting money unless adding another GPU.
