Blue Screen on startup, but still able to access Windows after hitting F8

Hi guys,

My SO and I had this issue with Windows 10 when trying to update to the Windows 10 Creators Edition where it couldn't download the update. I decided to do a fresh install of Windows (keeping my old files for ease) and everything worked fine.

My SO decided to get help from Microsoft who tried to troubleshoot some problems using the software EaseUS but to no avail. Anyway, now when she turns on her computer she gets the ASUS logo and then it goes to a blue screen with an error message (the error message is boot related). The only way to get around this is repeatedly tapping F8 on startup which shows a list of bootable drives. I can click the pre-selected SSD drive and then boot into Windows normally. I don't understand why I have to do that and why Windows can't just boot directly without this.

I tried doing a fresh install of Windows and about 3 times during the installation I kept getting that same blue screen. I had to restart the machine each time to complete the installation fully. So, now with a fresh install of Windows I had hoped that would fix the issue but unfortunately Windows still can't boot up correctly without tapping F8.

Any ideas what might be the problem? It's pretty frustrating that the fresh install didn't fix it and I'm out of ideas. Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks in advance!

As you've reinstalled the OS, it's very likely not a software issue unfortunately. I'd advise testing another hadrdrive/SSD with the PC if you have one.
