Ethernet Port not Working

So I just relaized that my internet was not working. When I plugged the ethernet cable from my computer to my laptop - the Internet was working again (via lan on the laptop). Then I plugged it back to my computer and my computer told me to put in an ethernet cable, before accessing the internet. The computers internet worked yesterday so I guess it is not a drivers issue - when I move the cable slightly it also sometimes works for a few seconds.

Any ideas on how to fix it? I was thinking that the ethernet port of my computer does not work and so I thought there might be some way go find a workaround for that.

Thanks a lot for any help!

If your desktop LAN port is not working and it is not a driver issue, you can always add an inexpensive PCIe x1 card (I recommend the single port Intel as it is reliable and fairly inexpensive).

I would try troubleshooting first though as it could just be an IP assignment issue or something simple. Also double check the cable just in case.
