Hey everyone,

My ssd with windows 7 on, now is installed as a boot drive on sata 2 port on motherboard z77 extreme4. My question here is, can I just move my ssd with installed windows on sata 3 without any hassle involved (reinstalling windows, downloading drivers etc.) ?

Thanks in advance!

Sure on the startup insure that the SSD is still the number one boot priority.

Yes, returning to current positions should work fine.

But do have a system repair or installer disk as that will fix the bootloader in just a minute or two to correct any problem. Everyone should have one or both to repair potential problems anyway.

I would disconnect all the other drives and make the change, which should work fine. But I always have either a system repair disk (that you can make -- just type that in the start window for the wizard) or an install disk in the event that it is needed, which seems about 10% of the time in my experience with a lot of W7 installs.

And although I'm sure that you know this -- power down your system when changing drive ports, etc. unless you have your bios set to hot swap and even then it is usually a better practice to just shutdown -- mandatory with the OS drive of course.

Thank you for your answer!
So i just move the boot priority to ssd again, I assume. I see the problem on other forums with this motherboard, thats why i am asking this. Because it seems that this motherboard has 4 sata 3 ports(grey colour) but only 2 actually working (intel ones).
And at last, if i put everything like you said and it doesnt boot, can i just unplug everything and put it in order like it was before? Will then everything work like it is now?
