Boot issue - starts to boot, turns off - rinse and repeat

Bought a prebuilt gaming PC that arrived today. Booted up fine, went through set up, removed some bloatware (zune, bing), did all the Windows 10 updates, which took a while and included multiple reboots.

Then I started to update drivers and needed to do a system restart. When it started to boot back up, the power light came on, I heard start-up noise, then it shut off. Then it started up again. Then shut off. It never fully boots and I can't get it to boot in safe mode. It will keep cycling/looping like this unless I press and hold the power button until it powers down or unplug it.

I'm guessing that one of the driver updates bricked the motherboard (based on a lot of googling) or that there was just something wrong from the get-go (it's a refurbished system from newegg).

What to do? I figure tomorrow I'll open her up and see if I can identify a problem (but I am NOT internal parts savvy. I mean, I did upgrade the RAM on my ancient MacBook Pro once, but other than that . . . .), but how on earth could I brick the motherboard by using the windows "update driver" feature?

TIA
