I'm planning to upgrade to an AMD Ryzen 5 1600. For that I need a new motherboard and RAM. I currently have an AMD Athlon x4 860K and a Gigabyte GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XM-HD3. I just want to get confirmation. Don't really want to buy windows again.

Which specific OS? And where did it come from?
If Win 10, Read and do this before you change any parts:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3164428/windows-build-1607-activation.html

That's just for the licensing.

For the actual operation, a clean install is generally recommended.
vs. just plugging it in, and assuming it will magically work with the new hardware.

So do I just get a bootable flash drive with my version of windows and install it with my account? Do i also have to wipe my HDD still?

1. Link your current OS license to your MS account.

2. Prepare for a full reinstall. Just plugging that drive+OS into a whole new install is very likely to not boot up at all.
Requiring a clean wipe and reinstall.
