Hi
I have had my build for about a year now but in the last few weeks I am getting BSOD when the CPU load is high (e.g. when playing games or when doing a CPU stress test). The error just says "CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT".
My build is:

  • i5 7600k
ASUS LGA 1151 STRIX GAMING Intel Z270
    Corsair CX750
    Cooler Master Hyper T4
    EVGA GTX 1070
I am not running with any overclocking (I went into BIOS and loaded the default profile just to be sure). The CPU seems to be running at a good temperature (between 60C and 70C at full load).

Something that seems to make the computer slightly more stable is to increase the CPU core Voltage by about 0.15V. Although I do still get the BSOD.

Is there anything I can do to give you more info on what might be wrong?

EDIT: I've run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and all the tests pass.

Solution
the general procedure for attempting to fix any bugcheck is to update the BIOS to the current version or reset it to defaults if it is current. Then update the motherboard drivers from the motherboard vendors website. I would then do a complete reinstall of the graphics drivers from the GPU vendors website.
reboot then make sure all of the windows updates are installed.

if you still get the error I would change the memory dump type to kernel, run verifier to aid in debugging the memory dump.
reboot and provide the current kernel memory dump file. IE copy c:\windows\memory.dmp file to a cloud server like Microsoft onedrive, share the file for public access and post a link.

even the minidump files would be useful they are located at...

even the minidump files would be useful they are located at c:\windows\minidump directory
(the timeout value in the memory dump can indicate what subsystem is having the problem)
but do note that often you need to provide the kernel memory dump to figure out this particular bugcheck.

Ok so I have done some additional things to try and solve this:

1. Format SSDs
2. Remove graphics card (just using onboard graphics now)
3. Re-install Windows 10
4. Install all update from Microsoft
5. Update the BIOS version to latest
6. Get updates from Asus (chipset, LAN, VGA)
7. Run a memory test (all OK)
8. Run a HD test (all OK)

And I am STILL getting the BSOD with message "CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT". But I have caught both the minidump AND the kernel memory dump from when it crashes. They are here:

Kernel Memory Dump: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vd601aje3lahw11/MEMORY.DMP?dl=0
Minidump: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vvb6kdocfkm7940/011719-3953-01.dmp?dl=0

I would greatly appreciate someone looking at these to see if there is anything unusual.

Many thanks

Your dump file 011719-3953-01 indicates a problem with igdkmd64.sys which is the intel graphics driver.

Some possible solutions:

Roll back the driver to an earlier version.

Reinstall the GTX 1070 and disable the intel graphics.

Disable the hibernation system
