Hello

I am upgrading my CPU, RAM and MoBo and i have found a couple of options that i liked.

- ASUS Z370-F
- MSI Gaming Pro Carbon
- ASUS Prime Z370-A
- Gigabyte Z370 Ultra Gaming 2.0

Which of these motherboards is the best for overclocking to 5Ghz on a I7-8700k. And which has the best Quality/Power management?

The build so far is:

- 1 of these motherboards above
- Intel I7 8700k *
- Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB WindForce OC
- 2x 8GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RGB 3000mhz *
- Cryorig H7
- Corsair TX550M Gold
- Phanteks P400S TG
- Seagate FireCuda 2TB

Thanks in advance.

First of all, how high you can oc a 8700K is determined by your luck in the bin lottery.
as of 12/01/2017
What % of I7-8700k chips can oc
at a aggressive vcore near 1.4 or so and delidded
4.9 99%
5.0 72%
5.1 43%
5.2 16%
5.3 3%

From reviews I have read, there is minimal difference in overclocking potential among all the Z370 based motherboards.
Pick based on other criteria.

How many expansion slots will you use?
If, like most of us, only the pcie x16 graphics slot.
Consider the asrock Z370M Pro4 M-ATX which is relatively inexpensive.

Your case is excellent and supports a 160mm tall cooler.
I suggest that a noctua NH-D15s is about the best out there. About $85.
A...
Honestly, those motherboards are all about the same and are in the same tier for overclocking. The luck of the silicon lottery will be key to hitting 5ghz. I would probably pick whichever is cheaper.

I am not sure what the pricing or availability is in your area, but the Asrock Z370 Exreme4 is a really good mid-range motherboard and should be a similar price to the ones you listed above.

You are *highly* unlikely to hit 5ghz on a Cryorig H7. Coffee Lake is hot - with the more powerful H5 I can only get to 4.7 with reasonable temps and even then not temp stable with P95 small FFT.

If you want 5ghz you need a hugh air cooler or 240mm or bigger AIO.

A better $35 cooler is the scythe kotetsu if your budget requires.

OC to whatever level you can get comfortably.
The 8700K is a beast at stock.
You will find that you will run out of safe vcore before you run into thermal limits.
The key to good air cooling is a good supply of front intake air.
Your case supports two front 140mm intakes, and that is what I would use.
Primarily for quiet; 140mm fans push more air at lower rpm than 120mm fans.
Or, use the 3 front 120mm mounts for intake; your choice there.
Keep one 120mm as an exhaust to direct the airflow past the cooler.
By having all the intake in one place and filtered, your parts will stay clean.

Im sorry i wasnt clear enough, I wont overclock straight away but over a couple of years when the CPU starts to age and when i have a new cooler.
