Hi All,

Need advice to choose between Intel i3 7th gen Processor and AMD Ryzen 3 1200. Which one is better for gaming.

I am adding ASUS GTX 1050 TI 4GB Graphic Card.

Santhosh.

Solution
My Question might sound silly, excuse if so.

Does 12 GB DDR4 RAM with 2400 Mhz equal 8 GB DDR4 RAM with 3000 MHZ.

My question is Can I add more GB's of 2400 MHZ RAM to equal 8 GB of 3000 MHZ RAM.

Doesnt work that way.

I would suggest if it is for gaming spend a $15 dolar more and get a i3 8th gen, now that new budget mb are being released get one of those, it seems way better option than the ryzen 3 1200

I agree with Hellfire13, the 7th gen i3 does not have as much longevity as the 1200.

If you want Intel budget CPUs, you should look at the 8th gen. I would take the i3 8100 over the 1200. The 8100 is a true quad core CPU and it is $120. You can also get an H, B, or Q board for the 8100 and save some more money. Core for core, Intel holds the lead in gaming.

Judging by the OP's name, I can assume hes from India. and yes, there is a massive price difference in 7th and 8th gen processors and the new "budget" motherboards would probably be a little expensive over there. I would suggest Ryzen 3 1200 in that case as it is cheaper and you can overclock it a fair bit with the stock cooler giving you some extra performance. (If you have a B350/X370 board)

I supose that "the 7th gen i3" is I3 7100 (of course I3 7300 or I3 7350K are better).

The role of the CPU is more evident when the GPU is more powerful. With a 1080, the CPU is very important, with a GTX 1050 it would be much less. You can use any of the two and even a G4560 with very small differences.

Ryzen 3 1200 has 4 core wo HT and I3 has 2 core w HT. I3 has better IPC and better stock GHz.

In same games Ryzen 3 1200 is slightly better and in others I3 is slightly better. Anyway if you look at reviews on the web remember that they are usually made with very powerful cards like the GTX 1080 and that with the GTX 1050 ti the differences will be much smaller.

Ryzen 3 1200 It can be overcloked with the Z370 or B350 mobo (but not with A320 ones), but not much.

Very important:
Ryzen requires a fast 3000 RAM and preferably special for Ryzen as the flarex. Due to the "infinite fabric" problem, ryzen is very sensitive to the speed of RAM.
I3 7100 requires a 2400 RAM.

Add the CPU cost + RAM cost + mobo cost and go for the cheapest.

Thanks for your detailed explanation.

Can you please say if RAM with 2400 MHZ will not perform with Ryzen 3 1200. Asking because, that is the one I have added to the built.

Thanks,
Santhosh

With great probability it will work without any problem, understanding that it is DDR4.
Anyway the compatibility is between RAM and mobo. To be sure you can go to the website of the manufacturer of the mobo to see the list of compatible RAM or, perhaps in the manufacturer of the RAM to see the list of compatible mobo.

Ryzen is very picky about RAM, even after all the patches and updates. So, nobody can tell you with certainty, although there are more chances of it working rather than not. If if you can still return it then... https://www.toptengamer.com/best-ram-amd-ryzen-5-7-cpu/

Thanks,

But here in Chennai, India. 3000 Mhz is very expensive when compared to 2400 Mhz. So I have no other option than going with 2400 MHZ for my budget :(.

So will there be a lot of performance problem when I try to play a somewhat graphic demanding games like Far Cry 5.

I am planning to shell a few more bugs and get the B350M and the 1300X. This is a far better than the previous options right ?

Im currently building pc for myself, just waiting for zen+ to release.Personally i think intel is better for gaming, but with amd you have more options(i mean video editing, rendering streaming and whatever).Whatever you buy u wont go wrong.I wouldnt go with dual core cpu,go with r3 1200 and oc it with b350 mobo. Currently i think better option is amd just bcs u know that same socket will stay until 2020.

Get the 2400 instead. The extra threads will last you longer than the extra clock speed which you can achieve by OCing.
