GPU Temperature increases by 40 degrees when tabbing into a game

I recently cleaned my computer after successfully reconnecting the cables and booting up my PC again I've experienced a few occurances while playing that my computer dies. I noticed it's because of my GPU. Normally, with the fan monitoring system MSI afterburner provides I have never really gone above 50 degrees Celsius while playing, but now after I took the cables out to clean the fans of the GPU and put them back in, the temperature readings are falsely telling me my computer is 85-90 degrees warm while tabbed in to the game, but if I tab out it within less than one second drops to 48 Celsius static. The same happens when I tab into a game, in the matter of less than a second it jumps up to 90 degrees and drops to 85 and sits there.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Is it not possible for the false readings to be the reason the GPU stops working due to safety reasons of temperatures being too high? Due to the numbers being too high the GPU tries to save itself by stopping.

The fans are definitely working and the fan monitoring feature of the MSI afterburner makes the fans spin at 100% power due to the numbers being that loud- yet I can touch the GPU and whatnot without it actually feeling THAT warm. The fans are most certainly going in very high speeds.

So are the fans stuck at 100% all the time now? Can you change the speed manually with Afterburner? I'd try taking it out again and checking it and all cables too.
