So, i have been upgrading my home network over the last couple weeks with gigabit switches and CAT7 cables. my internet coming into my house is advertised as 500mb/s connection with Wide Open Web (ISP). my original configuration was from the modem, to the un-managed switch, to the terminal devices (computers, TVs, game systems and router). I got about 550mb/s to 630mb/s at my computer but I ran into an issue when the switch assigned IP addresses and changed the IP address for my home sever, so none of my devices could connect to it. I re-arranged it by placing the router in between the modem and switch to manage IP addresses, but when i speed tested on the same computer my network went down to about 86MB/s. My router is a D-link DGL-5500 and has gigabit LAN ports.

Looking at the router's support site, it seems to show some firmware updates. Are you on the latest firmware update? If not then make sure you gradually work your way through the firmware's available.
