Overclocking to the limits

Hello there community!

Beginner in overclocking. I recently overclocked my GPU and CPU to a reasonable clock speed. I would like to ask for some guidance to whether or not it is at a good place to be. I wanted to overclock it to maybe 4.5ghz on the CPU but I noticed when I was running unigine and 3d fire strike there were some artifact going on and then suddenly a blue screen of death occurred. Could this be my limit to my components? or should I try to replace my CPU cooler. I watched a video of Linustechtips and did heard he mention something about "Luck of the Draw" could it be this be the maximum capacity I can push? any advice or recommendation is appreciated. While gaming on ultra setting I get a minimum of 100+ fps and average around 135-155 fps but I still wanted to see if I can push it more. Thank you for taking your time to read this post!

Here is my 3d FireStrike score https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26022298

P.S. going to upgrade to a 2560x1440 monitor at 144 hertz within the next few months.

Spec:
Motherboard: Asus z97m-Plus
CPU: Intel I5-4670k (OC from 3.4ghz to 4.3ghz at 1.275V) had a cool master hyper 212 EVO cooler on it, max temp is at 80 Celsius and idle around 33 Celsius it average around 55-75 while gaming intensively. Games I played is Battlefield 1, Far Cry 5, GTA 5, World Of Warcraft and Star Craft 2
Ram: DDR3 24gb at 1600mhz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 980 Ti Hybrid (OC core to 1426mhz and memory clock at 1853mhz) Max temp 70 Celsius and idle at 34 Celsius average around 66 while gaming
PSU: Thermaltake 1,000 watts Gold 80 plus
Peripheral: Razor gaming mouse and Asus monitor 1920x1080 resolution at 75 hertz

Solution
Those temps are a bit warm, I'd consider a better CPU cooler, but the 4.3ghz is still decent and tbh that extra 200mhz won't make much of a difference.

Hey thanks. What CPU cooler would you recommend?

Each chip has a upper OC limit depending on your luck in getting a good chip.
I think yours is reasonable for an average chip.
If another multiplier pushes your vcore over 1.3, I would stop.
1.3 is a reasonable upper limit.

The hyper 212 is popular, but it's main benefit is that it is cheap and does a reasonable job.
Since your temperatures are under 75c under load, I would not bother to change it out.

Be happy with the OC you have.
When you upgrade to a higher resolution monitor, your limiting factor may change from the cpu to the gpu.

Thank you kindly for the reply. I appreciate your advice. I was thinking the same thing as I was testing benchmark over and over to see if I could optimized it somehow but I guess it's the limit at the moment or the silicon lottery isn't a hit for me lol.

Thank you. I hope my case will fit that
Fractal Design - Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case is what I am currently using.

My 4670k also tops out at 4.3Ghz, I have pushed up to 1.300v but that's as far as I wanted to go. It will run at 4.3Ghz at 1.285v. Even if you squeezed it up to 4.5Ghz its less than a 5% increase, you are just not going to notice it. You will never push average of 100fps+ in really cpu heavy games such as BF1 multiplayer, 4 cores/threads just isn't enough. I have noticed in a couple of games I get drops under 60 fps as the cpu maxes out. To push 100+ fps in all games you are going to need a CPU upgrade.

My old i7-4770k also tops out at 4.3Ghz @ 1.29 volts. It will do 4.5, but only at 1.35 volts, and it will hit 100C pretty easily with any type of cooling.

To get more really means delidding, and I would say that isn't worth the risk.

You could drop in an i7-4790k to get the most out of the system before having to upgrade (Would certainly be economical given 24GB of memory to replace). Someone out there would probably buy your i5 to reduce the i7's cost a little.

Hello, these games that I played are on Campaign only, I haven't really touch Multiplayer except for World of Warcraft. You are correct when it comes to multiplayers there are certain area with lots of density and that does push the limits of my CPU and it does tank and dip down below 100fps, however most of the time when I play I normally get 100+.
Thanks for reading this post. I wish I could push it higher but since you are another one who has a similar build of mine that just give me more reassurance that this is it for my system until I decided to go and build a new one. I hope Volta makes a difference in 2018 or maybe 2019. I had this system that i build back in 2013. I slowly replace certain parts when it is needed.

The best stable OC I've gotten outta my 4770K is 4.4ghz @1.25V reaching 80C on P95 V26.6 Small FFT's (about an hour).

That will definitely help by not playing multiplayer, however I do notice occasional drops under 60fps in Project Cars 2 single player in certain races.

Hey can you recommend me some good racing car games? I never try it before so not sure if its going to be fun. I have seen YouTube videos of a few but need a bit more insight. Thanks for replying.

Racing games are very personal choice, do you like realistic sim type or arcade style physics? "The Best" is highly debated online. Personally I prefer more realistic racing games like Assetto Corsa & Project Cars 2. I am still quite new to racing, am more and FPS gamer. What I did find was I soon got fed up with an Xbox Controller which lead me to buy a G920 steering wheel, peddles and gear shift and then found I wanted a seat to mount it too and ended up with the Playseat Challenge. Less realistic racing games I find ok with a controller but I get bored, PC2 & AC are far more enjoyable and immersive now I have an ok setup. The single player of PC2 is much better as I do find multiplayer racing games full of morons.

Thanks for giving me an example of your PC spec. I guess this is my PC's limit. Thanks again for the insight on your gaming system.

Thanks for your response. I am a pretty open minded guy so I don't mind trying anything new just a bit hesitant and for me it doesn't matter about the graphics nor multi players as long as it's entertaining then I don't mind. When you mentioned about using a controller, that's the only way to play racing games? you can't use the keyboard?
