Hello all. I’m hoping someone can confirm what I’ve researched. I currently have a intel i5-2300 @2.8ghz which I believe to see as being LGA 1155 socket. Motherboard MB.GBL01.002 . recently our work computer upgraded and was told I can take anything I would like off it. The only item that interests me that is fine to add to my setup is the i7-3770 @3.40 ghz. Which from my research is also the lga1155 socket. Can anyone confirm this? Also, would you go through with it as well for the gains?
Thanks :)

If you are running P01.A3 BIOS then this may be a limitation imposed by Gateway which prevents you from upgrading to a 3rd gen CPU. I do not see a single DX4850 benchmark on Userbenchmark with that system/motherboard and a 3rd gen Intel CPU. As you cannot get the system to POST with a 3rd gen CPU it probably will never work. You could try contacting Gateway but I thinkthey will tell you that Ivy Bridge is not supported with that system. If that is so the best you could hope for is an overclocked i7 2600k.

Went ahead and swapped the processors today except I’m getting four beeps on startup with the i7, if I put the i5 back in starts up fine ... any suggestions? Current bios is p01-a3 which is the most recent on gateways site for my pc

You're not going to want to use a "2600k variant" but rather a standard non-K I7 2600 as there is also no guarantee that a K variant will work due to OEM specific BIOS codes, but there is certainty that a normal I7 2600 will work. There is nothing with that Gateway OEM system that you can associate with "overclocked" other than an add-in GPU. You also have the option of either finding the motherboard of a more advanced gateway that uses an actual 3rd gen Intel processor by default, or a non OEM mobo (asus, msi, gigabyte) where you can then use your I7 3770 that you have in hand. Issue with those solutions would be that you would likely need a new copy of Windows.
