New HDD splits into 2 on Installation?

Hi all, I run a separate HD as a 'Filing Cabinet'. I'm starting to upgrade (on a budget) and I bought a 4Tb HD to copy over everything from the old one.

When I install this drive it automatically split into 2 almost equal half's. The first half is fine and I created a drive and partitions. The 2nd half I cannot create drive or partition or anything!

At the mo' I'm running Win7 (to be upgraded to 10) on an ASUS M4A88T-V EVO mo'bo'; this is going to be replaced with a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 REV1.0 mo'bo'.

I can't see anything in the handbook about size limitations.

Any ideas? Will the drive perform normally when I install W10 and/or the new mo'bo'?

The drive is using the default MBR partition style which only supports drives up to 2TB.
Upgrading to Windows 10 will make no difference to that limitation.

For drives larger than 2TB you have to convert it to GPT to be able to use the full capacity of the drive - -- the easiest way to do that is with AOMEI Partition Assistant. Download link & tutorial is here:

Yes that worked thanks - although after several failed attempts I realised that I would have to format the disk first removing what I'd already put on it. No problem. Looks a little more comprehensive than the Windows disk management?
