WiFi download speed

I am on a 10mbps download package with my ISP, but when doing a broadband speed test it averages between 7 and 8.5mbps, but is never 10 and hardly ever even 9. My ISP can provide speeds up to 20mbps download. I am in a rural area and share a mini tower with my neighbor that is linked to another bigger tower so there is probably a lot of traffic. If I have my own mini tower will speeds increase to 10mbps and more or will this make no difference? If I have my own mini tower it will have to be connected to the main tower so will this make a difference.

ISPs will always quote "up to" for their speeds.

When you add Wifi to the equation, you add more variants. Router, 2.4 vs 5GHz, other signals in the vicinity etc.

What do your ethernet results look like? They should be able to hit higher numbers, probably real close to your quoted 10.

Having your own (essentially) dedicated tower, should see you net the max theoretical speeds hard-wired..... but the cost vs the reward wouldn't make it viable (IMO) and, add wifi to the equation, and the same issues remain.
