GPU - Upgrade advice needed

Hello All,

I am in desperate need of a GPU upgrade as I now have a 4k tv (and spare time to start gaming again).

I'm not sure which newer card my old rig can handle or if I could even fit a new GPU onto my old mother board (I understand newer GPUs have more pins to connect to PSU).

With GPU prices being sky high, the last thing I want to do is damage one by trying to install it in a non compatable rig.

Could anyone please advise what newer card would work with my ancient set up or if i would need to replace anything in order to accommodate a modern GPU? (I'm pretty sure I might need a more powerful PSU as I'm guessing new GPUs will use more juice, but I don't know for sure if this is accurate)

My build is below (and advice would be greatly appriciated)

1TB WD SATA HDD

Intel i7-3770 CPU

Gigabyte GA-B75M-D2V (rev. 1.0), 0.2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM, Motherboard

Palit GeForce GTX 760

FSP 500w Matx PSU

16GB DDR3 1600 Spectek RAM

Sorry for wall of text and thank you in advance to anyone that takes time out to share their wisdom!

The best you can do at that price is 1060 6GB and your 500W PSU should be able to do it in that system. New video card will be compatible with your system. Just make sure your PSU has the PCIe power plug.

The thing is if you want to play graphically demanding games in 4k then then your looking at 1080ti and at current prices it would be recommended to also upgrade your whole platform to 8th gen intel i5/i7 or Ryzen 1600/1700/1800 class. However if you want to stay where your at and ok with playing games in 1080p then I would recommend moving to GTX 1060 6GB still expensive right now but would work good with your configuration and is an upgrade over your 760.

TV has terrible input lag, which is not recommended for PC gaming. I will get GTX 1070 and either 1080p 144Hz or 1440p 60Hz monitor depending on what games you will play.
If you really want to game on the 4k tv, get a GTX 1080 and tune down settings for AAA titles.

Thank you all for your guidance.

Having spent a couple of days hunting for a gtx 1060/1070 I have come to the realisation that GPU prices are just too silly at the moment.

As a stop gap I'm going to turn to the dark side and get a ps4 pro as this will allow me to experience 4k gaming(ish) without spending a fortune.

Hopefully GPU prices will come down in 2018.
