Currently, I am running an ASUS G750JS, that I purchased "used", I purchased a notebook, since my living conditions changed where I could not have a desktop PC with my two monitors.

I have moved to a new place and I am currently using my ASUS G750JS with a LG 32in TV and use it as monitor to use the notebook in normal use and stream Netflix/Hulu. I still only game on the notebook screen, (I sit to close to the TV to game).

The PC that I have consist of an Asus Z87 ROG MicroATX with an Intel i5, 4670K and a 970 GTX.

I am looking to sell these components and looking to buy a Dell 7567 with a 1060 Ti

What are your opinions?

Should I get rid of the a Asus Z87 ROG MicroATX with an Intel i5, 4670K?? or should I just look to getting a new GPU??

Should I get the Dell 7567 with a 1060 Ti as a replacement for my G750JS with a 870m?

Any input would be appreciated.

Solution

2) If you have $600 budget get an i7-4790K and a RX 480. No bottlenecks there and...
1) There's no 1060 Ti.
2) Depends on how much money you want to spend.
3) No. If you don't need a laptop sell the G750JS. If you need a laptop keep it or sell it for a thinner one. You should not buy a new desktop to replace the laptop since you already have a PC.

If it's going to be left in the same place all/most of the time, there's no point in having a laptop.

The upgrade-ability is not there + if the battery is left installed & it's plugged in all the time, it will shorten the life of the battery. Not to mention there's the possibility of the battery expanding/leaking and causing damage to the laptop. These days, most gaming laptops have the battery installed internally(as opposed to just simply sliding it out). So it can be a pain to disassemble the laptop to disconnect/remove the battery.

Just a thought, I do take the notebook out and about for personal use and gaming sessions with friends.

You are correct, I have run the G750JS with the battery removed, I owed a AW m17X and the battery could not be removed. I am thinking that the Dell 7567 would be the same. I would use it about 40% battery powered and 60% plugged in. I am mainly looking at dell, since I have account with them and I can finance.

2) If you have $600 budget get an i7-4790K and a RX 480. No bottlenecks there and still going to be below $600.

3) I'd keep the desktop still. It won't thermal throttle while under load like a normal laptop would so playing at home is going to be more comfortable than outside. But no need to get a brand new system.

Solution

You're joking, right?

RX 480 4GB goes easily for $200 used right now. GTX 1060 3GB is still missing from market entirely. And the 480 wins out the 1060 whenever full DX12 or Vulkan is involved. The 580 even fully beats out the 1060. Not to mention the framebuffer size.

update to this question, I am giving my notebook to my son, replacing with main drive with a 1TB and secondary with a 2TB. I am keeping the desktop, but NOW, I seem to be having some issues with the PSU, looking a cost of $200 to replace it. With this new issue, I am thinking about just parting it out and get the notebook or an Alienware.

Thanks for all your comments.

$200? Unless you are getting some fancy 80+ Platinum fully modular PSU, that's way too pricey(that is unless a "technician" is working on your system... if that is the case though, ask what PSU he/she is planning to install - need to make sure it isn't junk)

I would be doing the work. I currently have a Antec High Current Gamer (HCG-900). I am in the process of contacting antec for warranty service, but with it be over 3 years old, I am not sure if I can get it serviced.

Looking at 900 (maybe 850) to 1000 watt PSU, cost will be between $130 to $200, estimated. I would be looking modular, so I only have to use the cables I need.

850watts

Low end, antec. $79; https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371109

High end, evga, $119; https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438133

900watts

debatable.

1000watts

Low end, evga, $180; https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6ZP3RF3561

High end, Corsair, $230; https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139082

But I am just looking around at the moment. Still gonna wait for Antec and see if maybe they can help me.

I was in the process of changing case, just needed some time to do it.
