Cheap processor that supports DDR3 RAM (60 or less budget for a processor)

I really need a cheap processor that is "good" that won't bottleneck a GTX 1050 Ti, and I really want it to support DDR3 Ram as I got 2x4 gig sticks lying around. I would like to spend $60 or less on a processor.
Edit: Also need a motherboard!

Oh, damn didn't really think this through lmao. Well, I guess a processor AND a motherboard for a total cost of 200 or less? Sorry, I forgot to add in that I need a motherboard as well! BTW, I'm good with AMD or Intel, I really have no preference. Sorry to waste your time with that question.

If you get the Z motherboard, you would want a K series Intel CPU to allow overclocking.

look for something like THIS. I just gave my grandmother my old computer with this very board and an i5 3570K. If I had not upgraded, I'd still be using it as it had plenty of power left in it for gaming (was paired with a GTX 1060 that I transplanted into the new build)

Thanks! Definitely will be considering/using the i5-3570!

Yeah, I need everything (case PSU etc). Since this is my first build, if I go with the Optiplex solution, I'll be adding my own PSU, just in case because I want to be very careful not to destroy my PC. Also, I am going for a 1050 Ti, and do you think I will have to mod the Optiplex case if I want to fit a GPU?

I think an i5 would be sufficient for a duration, as I will be looking at 1 - 4 years in use for it (hence why I'm not going all out on the build).

2 fans, but if needed I can always return the card and get a single fan one.

Yeah, I'm looking to play some demanding games such as F1 2017 and GTA V. Since the baseline i5 3570 has no OC abilities, its lifespan will be stretched.

It will probably be ok on the size of the card, but just make sure if you go that route, don't get one that is a small form factor system.

The other good thing on the refurb, is that it would have the windows 10 license already if you select one that comes with it. So that would another expense you wouldn't have to tack on until you do a full new build.

But yes, games like bf1 are already wanting more threads, so you can imagine that the trend will continue.

Thanks, and yeah it would suck to have to go out and purchase and install windows since its much easier just to get a refurbished one w/ windows installed. So, if I go the refurb route, I should go for an i7 machine?

I would if you can. Even with a locked i7 2600, you figure that's probably comparable performance to say a new ryzen 1400 at stock settings.

You could go i5, but I think for the most longevity, the i7 will be the safest bet. If you can get an ivy bridge or haswell system that would be better, but 200 for Sandy bridge shouldn't be terrible.

Cool, thanks!

A year or 2 back, it would be a valid point. But now, that i5 might as well be an i3 if you judge by the 8th gen.

Either way, with a 1050ti, either one will work. I'm just thinking your are seeing more games demanding more cores and I think that will be a trend that will continue as Xbox one and PS4 are both 8 core I think. So I would imagine any ports would want more cores.

I think I read even the i7 2600 shouldn't bottleneck a GTX 1070 to bad. Either way, it's not my money to spend. The i5 isn't a bad CPU, but if it's something I were getting to keep a couple of years or so, I'd go with the i7 personally.

Skip to the gaming benchmarks. You'll see the i5-3570(K) offers the same, similar, or better performance as the i7-2600(K) paired with a GTX 1080 Ti. So if you're budget oriented the i5 makes more sense.

Tbh, that surprises me a little.

i3 has always been a good low-mid range gaming CPU for the cost. Now the 8th-gen i3 hangs with the high-end because it's basically a 7th-gen i5.

*AFAIK the 2nd and 3rd-gen K series are the same as the non-K models when not overclocked.

Yeah, I see a bunch of Optiplex systems going pretty cheap with i7 2600's which are decent for gaming w/ a 1050 ti. It honestly will depend on what I can find cheaper when I come to buying the parts (around late June). Tbh, I really don't want to go through the process of having to install an OS since of my lack of experience, and on top of that i7 2600's are going for 100 + on ebay if I were to build the system from scratch. Right now, I'm looking to keep the PC as long until the mining apocalypse has ended, and prices are normal (if that ever happens).
