Hi all

So I have a small business and need something a LOT more customizable modem/router than the Telstra netgear v7610, I need it to have public port forwarding so I can remote login to my Qnap NAS with apps from multiple iphones etc. I would like it to have a 1GB backbone with some pretty decent wireless capabilities, looking for suggestions on products so I can do some research.
At home I have a RT-AC5300 which I really like would this be a good choice or are these to old now? happy to pay around 1K for something good.
The only thing im not sure about is the current modem connects to the internet VIA a 3G card So I think I will need to keep that and add a router after it.... Would that be right?

TIA

Having the 3G as a backup makes sense.

As far as the port forwarding, page 41 of the user guide (https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/small-business/broadband/pdf/telstra-gateway-pro-v7610-user-guide.pdf) describes how to forward requests made to your public IP address to a specific device. This should work, unless your ISP has provided you with a unit...
I'm not really clear on what the features the Telstra is missing. If you are having issues with the port forwarding, that might more of problem with the your internet. Mobile internet does not always provide for people connecting to ports. If this is the case, then there is no modem/router that will work the way you want. Have you looked at the Telstra VPN features and tried to connect that way?

Sorry so its connected VIA phone line with 3G backup as the phone lines here are TERRIBLE and dont work most of the time. The problem I am having is Qnap techs are trying to log into my NAS and they have asked I forward my public IP and port 80 but with the telstra modem it doesn't allow public IP forwarding just local IP so I cannot log into my network remotely at all

Generally, you would select port forwarding from the advanced settings menu. Select port forwarding. Select the service (port 80 is often called HTTP or Web) and enter the IP address of the Qnap (192.168.1.x or whatever). If the service you are interested in does not exist, then you can create a custom service.
