I know there are quite some threads out there with the same question but I just really wanted to confirm some info. I currently run an i7 7700k with an NZXT Kraken x62 AiO. The mobo I'm using is the MSI Gaming M3 ATX. On idle temps at 4.2 ghz, my CPU is around 46-54*C. Seems about normal according to many other threads. However, when I stress test it through prime95, I'm looking at a consistent 100*C. It worries me to see that at the base clock on full stress, my CPU is hitting 100*C. When playing games, it isn't too bad but I can expect about an increase from 20-35*C starting from 50*C. I want to delid my CPU but I am unsure if I should get it replaced first. I have a 2 year replacement plan on all items mentioned in this post so I want to be able to replace anything necessary before voiding any warranties. Thanks for any responses in advance!

That CPU temp is not normal in idle. It should be closer to 30degC not 50degC.

Sustained usage I believe Intel recommends no more than 80degC, but again things aren't correct.

SO..
1) either you have a setup issue, or
2) pump is defective (could be fan but you can observe the RPM)

Other:
Confirm the temp really is that with CPUID's HW Monitor if you don't already use that. Some software may be incorrect.

Other:
Thermal PASTE is usually not an issue, but if in doubt reapply. Generally just use a pea-sized ball (5mm diameter) in the center of the CPU after cleaning it with 90% or similar isopropyl alcohol, then mount the cooler which should spread the paste.

Idle temps should be similar to the i7-4790K and it's at 28degC using silent mode.

i7-4790K at 4.6GHz under load is only 71degC in silent (and Performance so fan speed not limiting factor apparently).

*to be clear, some tests in other benchmarks use DELTA values so for example a "30degC" value could be 50degC in a room of 20degC ambient. The above values are actual CPU temperatures.

SO... at 4.2GHz, similar ambient temps etc you should be closer to 60degC with heavy load and probably closer to the 40-50degC range when gaming.

Are you using the CAM software for it?

If so, have you tested the fan and pump speed options?

Having said that even the SLOWEST for both should be fine so it sounds like again either:

a) pump failure, or
b) fan failure, or
c) pump plug insufficient power?

I used HWMonitor to check temps and those were the temps displayed. I checked the BIOS and it displayed idles a little higher around 54-62*C. Reapplied thermal paste twice. Setup seems to be fine but unsure what problems you are thinking of. Also it’s my first time using AiO so I’m unsure on how to diagnose it and how to check RPMs.

Does the Kraken come with protective sticker on the bottom of the unit that attaches to the heat spreader? Secured properly/snugly to heat spreader? Pump connected to power/pump header?

Sounds as if it is either not pumping, or, has no air intake to radiator at all...or no exhaust. Or a combination of all of the above....

Sorry for the late follow up, I’ve been busy for quite a few. I don’t exactly remember if my Kraken came with a protective sticker nor do I remember taking it off. I do remember that it just came with thermal paste already on as I assumed most coolers already do as well. If it is a problem with my cooler though, I’ll definitely go and get it replaced and see what happens. Thanks for he suggestion!
