replaced the HDD and everything is fine now. Thanks
 


True, but that corruption is often caused by a failing hard drive anyway in my experience.

 


Don't forget windows update bricking systems. It's been happening quite a bit lately and I've had to fix many older (ivy bridge and before) systems and even had to put them back on 8.1 due to a spectre patch update breaking them. (most of this happens on portable devices).
