Ok. So I bought a prebuilt a few months ago and have been buying upgrade parts.

i7-7700 cpu,
gigabyte z170x GT mobo.
Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3000mhz RAM.

Every time I try to run XMP mode it won’t post. Goes to the BIOS screen and says configuration error. Is there something I am doing wrong? can this set up run 3000mhz RAM?

Any and all help is appreciated!

3200MHz speed memory is for overclocking. Several people have made posts that the PC dos not boot up at that speed and at 3000MHz.

You may want to try a mild overclock before trying to run memory at that speed. Memory speed for an Intel Core i7 i7-7700K with no overclock is listed as 2400MHz. You are currently running at default SPD (Serial Presence Detect) speed of 2100MHz.

Perhaps not. Usually you want a K class processor for overclocking. Officially the i7-7700 only supports DDR4-2400.

Is your BIOS up to date? You should be on at least F20 for that CPU to work in there, you might try F21 if you don't want to install the fixes for Spectre and Meltdown.

Should I not just update the bios to the latest version? If I do determine that it does indeed need an update? I’ve have read several places where people with the i7-7700 are running XMP/ OC’d RAM. Obviously not OC CPU
