Highest quality way to convert Hi8 to lossless digital format?

Hey all,

I'm trying to figure out how to get Hi8 tapes off a Sony TRV72 camcorder (not digital, so no firewire, but has S-Video and supports TBC and DNR) and into a lossless digital format. The "Black Magic Intensity" digitizer seemed promising until I found it only works on a small subset of motherboards.

Does anyone have a recommendation on how I can:

1. Capture the Hi8 tapes digitally in the highest quality format I can (preferably lossless)

2. Upscale the video to an HD resolution

Any and all help would be truly appreciated! I am open to buying new hardware and/or software if that would get me better quality of these family tapes.

Solution
It's analog signal so picture quality would depend on system used PAL or NTSC
PAL : 625-line / 50 field (25 frame) per second (576i)
NTSC 720 pixels x 576 lines.
No matter how you digitize/encode it, picture quality will stay same as source.
