Is there much difference between a laptop i3 and i5 for every day work?

I am gonna get a new laptop for things like word processing, Microsoft excel, web browsing and multimedia, no gaming. My budget is 350 - 400 pounds. I was thinking of getting a laptop with an i3 and 8gb of ram. Right now I have one with an i3 4000 and 4gb of ram and it is super slow and several years old with no SSD. I need my laptop to be very fast for my uni work and to have at least a few hours of charge for when I'm in class. Is there much difference between an i3 and i5 6th gen laptop CPU? Would an Intel Celeron laptop be too slow? Any thoughts?
Cheers!

Honestly just upgrade your current laptop with an ssd and you are good to go.

Try disabling startup program in the task manager first. You can do this by pressin ctrl+shift+escape and clicking on the startup tab. If you think your laptop is still slow try ending some background processes in the processes tab. Still too slow? try formatting your laptop. Methods mentioned above did not work? Try upgrading your ram, surely this will improve your laptop's performance.
One more thing, since you ask if there is much of a difference in i3 to i5. My answer is, There is certainly a difference but since you only use your laptop for basic office work, adding more ram in your i3 is not a bad choice. Its Cheaper and you dont nedd to buy a new laptop

I forgot to mention that my laptop is a completely sealed unit so I cannot upgrade it or even change the battery which is completely dead. My touchpad and DVD drive are also broken though I don't use the latter and it doesn't have an SSD. After coming back to uni after half term I have issues with it not connecting to the WiFi having recently reset it. Think I will just get a new laptop with an i3 and 8gb of ram and an SSD. Should be enough hopefully.
