Good clockspeed for Gigabyte Windforce OC gtx 1080?

Hi all, sorry I'm new to this OC thing. Just got this card, according to Gigabyte, this model has a max boost clock of 1797 Mhz in OC mode. However using Gigabyte Game Xtreme Engine as well as Afterburner, the card both show clock speed 1898 Mhz out-of-the-box without any clocking, during benchmarking with Uni Heaven. Is this normal or are my softwares not monitoring it correctly? I can't seem to be able to put this card into OC mode either. Xtreme Engine cannot select OC. In Afterburner, I raise the GPU power limit to 108% yet I see no difference, still 1898 Mhz max...

Hi iamnk,

The boost in clock speed is an "auto overclock" due to GPU BOOST 3.0 (https://www.anandtech.com/show/10325/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-and-1070-founders-edition-review/15)

The frequency steps are function of thermal headroom so the hotter it is, the lower the frequency will be.
Those frequencies (at stock) are written in the card bios by the manufacturer.

All you can do is to put an offset with a software like afterburner. Raise slowly the core slider to rise the frequency.
BUT don't expect the frequency to be constant, GPU BOOST 3.0 is still here ;)
