I've 8Gb of ram, and I want to upgrade one of these two. I'm looking for a gaming experience. what do you think is the best approach? 16Gb of ram or SSD (I only use HDD)

Solution
Gpus with 4GB vram or more better off with 16GB ram. Games like Gta 5, Ghost Recon, BF1, Division, Battlefront 2 to name a few do create whopping size pagefiles into the 10+GB range with 8GB ram. Hdd usage causes stutters and that happens when data from vram gets off loaded to ram and if not enough ram the next destination is hdd. An Ssd will help pagefile speed but more ram will be better.

I don't think you gain any gaming experience by upgrading those,

more RAM, more multitasking (unless you got a 3000+ Mhz RAM, yes, FPS increase is there, much more noticeable on Ryzen build)

SSD, game loading times faster, fps increase? I don't think there is any, even if there is any, won't affect your gaming experience

8GB of RAM is getting a little borderline in a growing number of high-profile newer games, especially if you have a GPU with 4GB or less VRAM where system RAM may get used to cache less frequently used game assets. If you don't have enough RAM to keep assets there, they'll have to get reloaded from SSD/HDD and may cause significant stutter as textures get reloaded.

Another benefit of having 16GB of RAM is that most recently used game data will be in the OS' file system cache, which means game levels/zones should reload faster than they would from an SSD after the initial longer load time from HDD, so you don't need to have an SSD large enough to store all of your favorite games if you don't mind the longer first-time load time.
