Hi, I am going nuts so any help or attempt to help will be most appreciated. I thank you in advance.
This is an old PC with XP.
I somehow managed to uninstall a perfectly working video adapter (It might have to do with registry cleaning + driver update etc) during preparation of a new monitor purchase. don't fix it if it ain't broke, right? I am tired of banging my head against the wall.

So sadly I only have VGA now. The thing had a Intel graphics and Media Control utility (or was it called wizard) Which is no longer available when right mouse clicking on desktop.
I can't install intel drivers update utility because the installer asks for Framework 4.5 (not compatible with XP)
The online driver update utilities (driver booster, snappy driver, driverpack solution) all failed.

I am really ready to throw everything away but can't afford. Can someone please help me ?????

Here is the specs:

Graphics cards for winxp are hard to find since drivers support has ended. I searched for a winxp driver first than looked the cards it supports. I keep the cost down not sure about your budget. The results are below.

If you do not understand how to install hardware inside the case than have a Installed by a pc store or a friend that knows how to do it correctly. Some pointers
- never use the driver install disc in the retail box its always outdated I have linked the driver page.

This card will give you hdmi, dvi and vga...

Hi. Thank you I thought I copied and posted everything. Yet another stupidity on my part. I left work, so can’t check now but indeed it is an HP pro MT something. I checked but there was nothing on hp site...

I tried all these...none worked. My guess is the problem started after some registry entries that were deleted during cleanup. i used ccleaner without a backup.(stupid)
I also disabled igfxtray at startup.
After repeated tries I can see the graphics control panel at lower right corner of the screen and I restored it at startup but clicking it doesn’t start the program. I didn’t delete intel control utility program so I wonder where it is located in windows. It looked like this:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/28325iD911FD80913FFE2C/image-size/original?v=mpbl-1&px=-1
If I can start that I might be able to adjust the settings.
Is there a way to download the intel utility program without net framework 4.5???
The manual driver updates don’t work.
Do you think repairing xp installation would help? I have the original windows do disk but unfortunately don’t have the original hp driver utility disks anymore

I appreciate the help. After numerous tries of installs and uninstalls I was able to get the video card work properly but I have a new problem now.
The dvi-d port stopped working altogether. All my drivers are up to date but no signal out of dvi-d at any point, including initial pc booting. So it’s not a windows issue. What could have happened here? Any suggestions?

Look for MT pro number with this I may be able to find the driver on the hp site. As for the dvi port that really could be a failure of hardware. Never use ccleaner I use Glary Utilities it will not remove anything important. Using this for years.

Its this a home pc? Do you need windows for software use? I read the specs and your system is a sandy bridge chipset. It could run windows 7 but sadly its support ends in 2020.

Since its a older system it may be able run linux. I use linux mint which is free its been around since 2006. I am going to link the site read what it offers. If you decide to try it all you need is a dvd to burn it to after you download the iso image. I will help you if you need it.

With mint you have a live session which means it will boot into a desktop in ram [ if you have enough]. I will Check your system ram amount before deciding though, questions ask me.

Dave, Thank you for the additional suggestions and offer to help me with drivers.
I somehow managed to get things working properly. Don't ask me how, because I wouldn't know: Multiple times unplugging plugging monitors- driver installs and uninstalls, probably 50 reboots in between and now it's back.
I used multiple driver update programs: DriverPack, seems to have worked best. One needs to be careful because it tries to install junk software in addition to drivers.

I appreciate all those who tied their best.
Lesson learned: Don't mess with a working machine.

If the system acts up again this is how to repair the sysyem without data loss. Backup any data you wantvto keep on a another drive. read this fully before proceeding.

https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-perform-a-windows-xp-repair-install-2624915.

I would down programs you want use and keep the installers handy. Normally this does not effect progams buI it can happen.

Thanks again Dave! That looks like a good guide!
Ok, I still have some issues, hope you or someone else might be able to help.
Now that I have the driver issue resolved, I was hoping to get 2K signal from this PC for a new monitor, but I don't seem to be able to get anything above Full HD.
I am using a DVI-D cable with a DVI-D HDMI converter for the monitor end. The intel driver recognized the monitor but the maximum resolution as it appears on the resolution list is 1920x1080.
Of what I read, the OS platform (Win XP) doesn't have any sort of display resolution limitation. Someone wrote about using XP with 4K.
All drivers are up to date. The 2K monitor is recognized by the card.
So what could it be?

What would you do?
(maybe I should start a new thread but I don't like multiple postings)

For 4k, you need a 4k monitor, plus your need a 4k graphics card which is around 200 and up the last time I checked. Winxp does have limits on resolution based on the graphics card installed.

From your post your monitor is not hdmi and by using that cable the system can not detect the the resolution of the monitor I suspect. Basically to get a higher resolution you need...

- Dedicated graphics card with either HDMI DVI output this can be lower cost as long as you do not play games. Need to do a little research before I post a graphics card.

-New monitor with both hdmi and dvi. With hdmi you get both sound and video with dvi you only get the video. For budgeting a monitor with dvi or hdmi would be ideal. I suggest looking at places like good will or other places arpund you and you ask to plug it in to a outlet to see if it works. I see monitors at my good will from time to time.
