Hello everyone.

I am not very happy with my current pc. I bought it like 3 years ago and I didn't have any knowledge or expierence with computer at all. The biggest problem with this pc is that the cpu (an Amd Athlon x4 860k) is bottlenecking the gpu (GTX 960 4GB) very hard.

So now I want build myself a new pc, I want to keep the GTX 960 since it's a fine card for 1080p and new gpu's are priced very high. I'll pair it with an i5 8600k.

I'm going to sell my current pc, but since it has no graphics card into it I had to find a second hand graphics card, the athlon x4 860k wouldn't bottleneck. I came to the conclusion that I needed to get the GTX 750 ti, since it's an OK graphics card, and on most games the x4 860k doesn't bottleneck it.

So before getting out the GTX 960, I ran the Guru3D Display Driver Uninstaller, to get rid of all the existing Nvidia drivers, before installing the GTX 750 ti. Booting the system up worked fine (before I had issues with booting up aswell, but that was being caused by still existing nvidia drivers).

The biggest problem occurred by installing the new Nvidia drivers. Halfway in the installing process, the screen goes to white and red vertical lines. Some minutes after, it gives a blue screen with the error code: 'DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION'. Then the system reboots itself, and comes back in the main desktop screen, without the graphics drivers installed. I ran Guru3D DDU multiple times, even in Windows safe mode. I also used different versions of the nvidia drivers, and tried to install the drivers with Geforce Experience. Non of them worked. By the way, when not having the drivers installed, so having your screen resolution very weird, there's like blue little pixels on some places of the screen. When I go over them with my mouse, they disapear, but they will appear in a different location of the screen. I don't know if this indicates something.

The seller of the gtx 750 ti is pretty legit as it seems. I contacted him several times and tries to solve the issue with me too. Unfortunately he doesn't know what the problem is either. He told me he ran the Heaven benchmark for 30 minutes before selling the card. Also when I start my computer, the fans starts spinning and it gives output, since I am typing this now. So I don't think the card is broken.

When I swap out the GTX 750 ti for the GTX 960 again, I can install the Nvidia drivers just fine, without having those issues.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Maybe I just have to do a fresh reinstall of Windows 10?

My system specs are:
- Amd Athlon x4 860k
- Gigabyte G1 Sniper A88x
- 8 GB (2x4 GB) ddr3 ram
- MSI Geforce GTX 750 ti
- Cooler master tx3 evo
- WD blue 1tb
- Be Quiet! System power 8 500w
- Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Solution
That error usually comes up with a SATA problem. The error shows up in SSD applications. The SATA ACHI controller driver may be corrupted. A reinstall of the motherboard drivers or a fresh install of Windows may fix the issue.

Here is an article on the error.
