What cord can be used to overclock monitor?

I have a 27es HP monitor. I was not aware that you could overclock the refresh rate of a monitor so please excuse my lack of knowledge on this. My monitor has a VGA port and HDMI port. I have a GTX 1060 6GB. When I go into the NVIDIA control panel and customize the monitor, I am able to go up to 80Hz. However, when I push apply I get this box that says input signal lost and then starts counting down from 30 to put my monitor to sleep. When I looked up what this mean't apparently people said that the bandwidth of the HDMI cable is not strong enough. I was able to gather that DVI cables are pretty good when overclocking and that there are new HDMI cables that are better for overclocking. Problem is, when I look if these HDMI cables are compatible with my monitor it doesn't show up. So basically, I have 3 questions, if I buy a converter cable(HDMI to DVI) will it be more powerful than this HDMI cord that I have which would allow me to overclock? Is this monitor capable of handling the updated versions of HDMI cables so I can overclock? Can this monitor even support overclock because some people said that it is not the cord and that it is the monitor. If anyone can link me a cord that will give me a better bandwidth to overclock then please link me some.

Well you can't just go overclock to whatever you want. Some monitors will only overclock a few Hz. For instance, I had an Asus 60Hz monitor that would only go to 67Hz before it crashed.

Before you go buy a new cable; increase 1Hz at a time until you find the maximum stable refresh rate. That's just like any other overclocking.

I am aware of this, I went up by 1 every time. I was able to get 80 Hz and the test would say "successful, would you like to apply these settings?" If I went to 81, then my screen would go completely black. But 80 would past that test. When I tried to apply it then I would see the monitor at 80hz but then I would get this box saying how the input signal is not found which when I looked up I found out that it "input signal" could be the cord bandwidth.

So I should I not overclock this monitor and is it physically incapable of overclocking even though it says successful when I test 80hz but says input signal not found?
