Are APUs, or motherboards with an embedded GPU and/or CPU still popular?

How about (gaming) mini PCs... are they recommended, in general? Thank you everyone for your thoughts; I'm considering my options before I open my wallet ;)

APUs/Integrated graphics are just fine for everyday tasks and MAYBE some very light gaming, but for the most part, if you're looking to game, you'll want a discrete graphics card. Mini-PCs/ITX motherboards are still a thing, but I've never understood the draw, personally.
