I have an HP Z600 workstation. And I use A GTX 750ti for gaming on it. yes, I know it isn't an ideal gaming setup. But I don't have any other system to play on. I have connected the 6 pin power connector to a three pin connector which was coming from the CD Drive so does that mean I'm getting power from the drive or am I giving power to the CD drive should I connect the 6 pin connector to the connector that's coming from the PSU?

Solution
The psu needs to power the gpu directly. It also powers the CD drive directly. The two should not be combined nor need any kind of adapters. The CD should be Sata powered unless it's a very very old ide drive which uses molex (big 4 pin in straight line) and the gpu will use the 6pin from the psu that's usually labeled VGA or PCIE or GPU.
