A question about updating bios! PLEASE HELP!

Okay so I know what everyone is going to say, "just build a new pc" but that's not quite the point on this one. I have an ip35 motherboard and an Intel core 2 quad, I also have an hd 6000 series gpu and 6gb of 800mhz ram that will work in the mobo. I currently have a core 2 duo that is in the mobo that works fine, but any core 2 quad I have put into it says processor is missing or unworkable, everything I've tried has been lga 775.

Okay so I'm trying to make my brother a low tier gaming pc for older games and stuff and I want to give him this quad i have but I'm pretty sure my mobo needs a bios update because so far they refuse to work!. I don't have access to a floppy disc and for some reason I can't unzip any of the bios updates I download from abit. If anyone could walk me through this I would greatly appreciate it and I know my brother would too!

ALSO: I know that even with quad this is a [censored] pc, I just want my brother to have a pc of some sort of his own to start him off on pc gaming and upgrading and all that, he doesn't really know what he's doing so I'm going to update this mobo for him because it's hard to do and then I'm going to stand aside and watch while he puts his first pc together he will EVENTUALLY build his own with his own money but for now this is on me for him as a little project gift but I can't feel okay in giving it to him unless it at least has a core 2 quad in it,

please help me complete this gift! I'll tell him who helped! I'm sure he'd appreciate it! EDIT: I also know that abit is closed and has no support which is why I'm looking to the awesome community here at tomshardware! I can download the update but I don't know how to use it or even how to extract it because winrar doesn't recognize it!

Also if I brick this motherboard trying to update it that's okay, I know the risks! I just don't know how to even begin! I've built many a pc just never had to update bios!

Thanks again in advance!

You are welcome. It is a good board, but, still, it is over 10 years old, and wear and tear might make a problem.
Basically, any socket 775 quadcore should be running on that board, and it should not be a matter of the bios - some CPUs might not get recognized, though.
Do you know exactly which Quadcores you have?

First ideas, but still to be verified:

Although it is not very likely, it happens, that a pin in the CPU-socket gets bent or broken, and that can sometimes lead to CPUs not working, or very strange effects. You can check the pins of the CPU socket, but that is only the last thing to check for, as it reqires you to dissassemble your PC.

Your board might not be getting enough power, sometimes because the PSU is not strong enough. This is not very likely, but we might check that as well. Later.

You migth have to reset your BIOS to default settings. Do you know ho to do that?

Thank you though your suggestions are exactly what I would say to someone as well, my psu is a 520 and should run what I have in it. Yes I know how to reset my bios as well using cmos, I'm an experienced pc builder I just have never had to update bios and am completely perplexed by it

My God you saved me ragnar! I was downloading the bios updates from the abit website and they were 1kb each and I haven't done this before so I figured it was normal but now I have one that is 500kb so this is the real deal (thanks to the ftp in the link you provided :) ) but I still don't know how to install a bios update via usb

So I've been working at this for quite some time now, since the zip (containing my bios update) is a zip file and when extracted is just 4 other files I can't make a boot usb because there are no images to make one with, also when I go to make an image it just doesnt work out, I can't select the folder full of files I need i don't know what to do

I actually wasn't notified of this last post but that's how I got it to work! I used Rufus to make a dos boot and then copied the files from one of the links within the link you provided into my dos boot usb and installed it from there, worked perfectly. Thank you so much for your assistance I feel as if this would have taken a lot longer without it!

One further update if anyone cares haha, my brother built this first pc of his and loves it so far, he's currently playing through the half life 2 series again and playing g-mod with his friends! Going to test it on planetary annihilation for a LAN party next! Thanks again to ragnar-gd for all his help and consistency on replying frequently, huge help! Just another issue of mine solved here on tomshardware! Loving this website!
