I have a wd elements 2T drive that crashed after hitting on the floor from small height while it was connected. I tried to restore my files with get data back, I found all of them but it was taking ages to copy them so i formatted it with minitool wizard. (By mistake did it twice without having written anything new at the drive). Now that I am trying to recover my old files it's impossible to a find them. The old MFT is lost or my files are lost forever? How I can find them again?

Solution
Dropped drive
Formatted
Twice

The only place that data still exists is in your backup.

Some of the consumer grade recovery tools might find something, but it would be like....file001, file002, file003.
You won't get back the entirety in its original folder structure.
It was taking ages to retrieve the data because the drive has been damaged - - formatting was never going to fix that, in fact you've made success of recovery less likely.

Having no backups wasn't a smart move either (ie same data should also have been put on a different drive well before all this happened).

Partition recovery software might help to get the original partition back where the data was.

Whatever the outcome though, that drive needs replacing for sure.

The drive had pending sectors that was slowing it down, I also tried to make an image but took days with no luck. So the format was a last solution and probably the worst. So you suggest to find the previous partition and write it back to the drive? Does it matter that I formatted it twice? Thanks for responding
