So here is the deal, I ran with windows 7 and i would get the odd lag here and there the normal stuff really but then i upgraded to windows 10 just before the end of the year as the upgrade was free, And i noticed the lag had gotten 3 times worse to the point that it effects not just my Computer, but the xbox plus any wireless network in the house, over the past 3 months i have been trying to figure it out. i will give you a run down of all the stuff i have changed and what my ISP has said as well as all the things i have tested.

  • ISP sent new router out
    Upgraded router software
Changed all wires to new ones
changed the filter on the wall to a new one
Physically moved Router to a better location
Made sure there is no other hardware that can interfere with router in the Vicinity
Disconnected everyone from internet, changed password, Reconnected everyone in house
Tried with just 1 Computer connected
    Tried wired and wireless
Tried Port forwarding for the Xbox one still getting lag
    Disabled Firewall
Scanned for virus's then uninstalled virus scanner
    Disabled Cortana
    Disabled one drive
Turned off all Automatic updates and all App updates
made sure nothing is downloading on any wirelss device

I'm sure there is a few more i just can't remember them at the moment, now here is where it starts getting weird.

I've rang up my ISP, Which is Utility warehouse {England} 7 times in the last 3 months, they have said each time that its 100% stable on there end and tried all the normal stuff they get you to do, restart, reset, test move to new filter, etc. The last 2 time's I've called them they have both come to the conclusion that it has to be something on my computer that is effecting the internet, so I've tried turning the computer off And testing it on the xbox, it still lags as well as the laptop. I have also looked up to see if BT are doing anything in the area to which they are not.

Now the interesting part is that the Router does not disconnect when the internet does, my Ping on games is usually around 20-32 apart from the odd jump to around 40-60 during those lag spikes, nothing else is out of the ordinary, it happens randomly without any warning at irregular times, not just during rush hours and days.

my ISP has no idea what to do, i am completely stumped and ran out of ideas.
The console and the PC are Ethernet cables not wireless like the laptop.

Just lags: no error messages, pop-up windows, etc...?

What modem do you have? Normally the connection path would be: Modem -----> Router -----> devices

Or a Modem/Router combo device could be used.

Make and model(s). You mentioned "filter on the wall" (also called a splitter) - ADSL connection/subscription - correct?

Windows 10 - try the built in troubleshooter:

"WIN" + "I" > Update & Security > Troubleshoot

Have you tried tracert and pathping via the CMD prompt on your PC? Target Google (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4)

On your PC run Task Manager and Resource Monitor.

Focus on Network information. Maybe some application is tying up the network trying to "phone home", backup, update, etc.

Corrupted and/or buggy....
