I currently have an Archer c7 and then a netgear wireless extender connected over powerline adapters in another room about 25 ft away.

When I speed test with my phone right next to the router I get about 65 down and 59 up. When I start walking towards the extender (say 1/2 way) I get about 5 down and 4.5 up. When I go beyond the extender I get the same 5/4.5 for another 40 ft radus.

I konw it's because the extender is taking over and cutting the speed drastically.

My question is if I get a Netgear Orbi RBK50 and place the satellite beyond the extender, will I get close to the 65 down/59 up apeeds throughout the whole house, or will I get closer to the 5/4.5 speeds?

Like, does the satellite on the Orbi act like the extender?

I recommend doing some additional experimentation/testing before spending $300 or so.

What model is the current Netgear wireless extender? How is it configured? Firmware up to date?

Are you using 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz wireless?

Any other wireless devices around: cameras, baby monitors, and so forth. Interference perhaps.

Just your phone? Test the speeds with a couple of other wireless devices.

Try moving the extender to other locations: up, down, left, right, etc..

Maybe a direct Ethernet cable (temporary) to bypass the powerline connections.

See what else you can learn. The problem may not be something solvable by more hardware.

And also do some reading about the Orbi.

Here is a Netgear link to help...

Does no harm at all to read the manuals etc. in advance. You may note some "fine print" or other caveat that will undo your plans.

Or discover some involved factor that eliminates the need for the Orbi altogether.....
