At wits end about PC freezing while gaming.

Been racking my brain for a month trying to figure out why my custom built PC freezes while gaming. Final Fantasy 15 pc is unplayable. Locks PC 10 minutes in every time. Nier Automata however I can get 5- 6 or so hours then I get to a certain spot it lags then freezes the pc. It varies. Some times it doesn't do it at all. As a somewhat newbie, I have done all the research I can think of and I absolutely cannot figure out what the problem is. I am at my wits end with frustration so I respectfully ask for help. I post in the Mobo section because it's the only possibility I can think of being an older bios. It does have an AMI bios and I thought about trying to get an updated bios from AMI but I wasn't sure if that is was right before I asked here. I also have a problem driver that I cannot update or get rid of. It always reinstalls. The MS PS/2 mouse in device manager has a yellow sign but I never use it as I use a USB wireless kb/mouse. I read if you have multiple mouse/kb drivers they can clash. Not getting any BSOD after I replaced the CPU. Just freezing requiring a hard rest. I also have a logitech g13 gameboard as well. I would greatly appreciate any advice and thank you for your time. Things Ive tried (not in order):

1. Full clean reinstall of Win 10, all drivers (3 times)
2. Stripped down to bare minimum (removed sound card, etc.).
3. Removed old faulty AMD FX-6200 to a new(ish) unopened box AMD FX-8370
4. Scannow
5. Mem tested 86
6. All drivers up to date. (except Mobo's newest bios update is 12/2013)
7. Temps are good (thermal margin never goes below 20c under load).
8. Nothing OCed
9. No viruses
10. Updated chipset
11. Turned off powersavers in bios and windows. Set to performance.
12. BIOS set to default
My rig:
Name AMD FX-8370 Black edition
Specification AMD FX-8370 Eight-Core Processor
Package Socket AM3+ (942)
Core Stepping OR-C0
Technology 32 nm
TDP Limit 125.2 Watts

Base frequency (cores) 201.0 MHz
Base frequency (ext.) 201.0 MHz
Rated Bus speed 2612.9 MHz
Stock frequency 4000 MHz

Motherboard:
Jetway HA-18
Northbridge AMD RD9x0 rev. 02
Southbridge AMD SB910/950 rev. 40
Memory Type DDR3
Memory Size 12 GBytes
Channels Dual
Memory Frequency 670.0 MHz (3:10) (Is this right?)

GPU: (MSI) Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 2G
PSU: 650w modular (can't remember brand off hand)
SSD: New Samsung Evo-860
HD: 6 month old WD 1TB black storage drive
Liquid cooler: Corsair H-75
RAM: Corsiar 12g (3 x 4g)

Solution
Check the PSU. A marginal PSU will introduce all sorts of odd system behavior. The PSU is the heart of a system.
When building a system I pick the PSU before anything else, if I need to save a few bucks I will shave it off of something else and not the PSU.

Hello! There are many possible problems:
Motherboard failing.
Power supply failing.
SSD problem.
And more. But it can be fixed.

Can you answer these questions so I can get a more accurate answer to your question?
1: Does your PC freezes for more than 5 seconds before restarting?
2: Do you have more than 1 operating system?
3: Was the SSD used for more than a week before the problem started?
4: Do you have more than 1 storage system on your computer?

Appreciate the reply:
1. Yes, it completely locks up. I have to do a hard reset. Boots fine and much faster than the old HDD.
2. No. Just an upgraded Win 10 from Win 7.
3. The SSD is brand new. 2 weeks old. I replaced a hard drive that was doing the same thing except worse. It was dying making noises, long boots etc. PC would lock up on that HDD too.
4. I have 2. the new SSD and around 6 month old WD 1TB black (gaming) HDD that I use as a game storage only.

I have 2 PSU's both fairly new that I have tried. Same thing.

Motherboard supports Dual Channel DDR3 1866/1600/1333/1066
FX-8370 CPU can use a single matched pair of 1866MHz.

It appears you are currently using an unusual amount of memory 12GB running at 1333MHZ.
I would get a single kit of 1866MHz. Also set memory parameters in the BIOS.
1) Memory clock
2) DRAM timings
3) DRAM voltage

+1 for psu issues. a bad psu can cause sporadic issues from bad hard drive blocks to freezing up and should the thing theoretically spontaneously combust, and even take out other parts of the pc with it.

Appreciate the replies. The RAM is second hand I got from a family member so I will try and replace those and retest the other PSU I have. That PSU is practically brand new (only used for 1 hour) but concerned it's only 550w where as this one in now is 650w however I got it secondhand as well. The output seemed normal but did not test it long term. And again much appreciated the suggestions that gave me new ideas to try. It was driving me crazy.

The quality of the PSU is what matters.
The make and model of the PSU can help determine if the PSU is a potential issue.

What just noticed is that the game will get micro lag spike or stuttering for about 1- 2 seconds right before it locks up but it doesn't happen every time I get the stuttering. It's kinda always did that and never paid attention to it because I got used to it until now. RAM issue? Or can a PSU cause that as well?

Yes a PSU can be responsible for the stutter.

Turns out it was the PSU that was causing the problem. Thank you for all the replies. I tested and retested. Swapped out another PSU, ran for 7 hours with zero problems anymore. Amazing the PSU can cause so many different issues and mask itself as something else like a memory issue for example.
