Hello, I am looking to purchase a WD HDD for storing my movies and other files. I have a bit of a fear of losing all of my data, so which color will last the longest? I am thinking about getting the red one, because it seems like that one is meant to take the most abuse. Thanks in advance!

PS: I'm new to the forum so I apologize if I did something wrong.

Solution
The WD Red series, approved for NAS usage, *should* last quite a while, but, as soon as you assume that, and begin to rely on it, you will get the first one of 2,000 shipped that crashes after 2 weeks use. :) You should never truly rely on one drive for valuable data. 2 copies minimum, 3 is better, even if stored on slower archive media. Commercial movies can be redownloaded, but, if sentimentally valuable home movies, burn them to multiple DVDs if necessary, so all is not lost in the event of a drive crash. Back up valuable photos/docs/files to free photo storing accounts and/or free cloud accounts like Google Drive, MS One Drive, Box, DropBox, P-Cloud, Amazon Drive, etc...
