I have a Cisco linksys e1200 router. It is connected to my Dsl Broadband device. Now i want my linksys e1200 router to be used as a server for OPEN VPN. I dont know how to do this. Can anyone please give me a detailed step by step description? I think some modifications are requured in its firmware, Also i have to write a OVPN file to import on open vpn mobile app so that it can be connected with my Vpn server ( Linksys e1200)

Thanks alot in advance for spending your precious time to answer this question.

Solution
You may be better off buy a router that has the vpn server function. This is not a simple question that can be answered in a few lines on a forum like this. Loading third party firmware like dd-wrt take quite a bit a research. Each router model has its own set of instruction on what firmware you need to load and how you actually load it. You also have to read carefully because some routers have multiple hardware revision levels that can make a difference what firmware image file you need to load.

The open vpn is also takes some study because there are many options you need to choose when you set it up.

I have an E1200 running DD-WRT, it was great as my main router way back when but once I upgraded past my 25/25 plan and starting adding more devices it became a bit overwhelmed - IMHO it's a bit anemic to enable the VPN server function... Nowadays I just use it for a client-bridge when the need arises (e.g. need to do a linux OS net-install without having to deal with WIFI headache).

If you are not going to upgrade it consider getting a dedicated server running OpenVPN and port-forwarding to it.
