hello
i have and old refurbished lenovo think centre which has a core duo 8400 cpu and it need to be a low profile card and under More or less £50 No asus i have had a bad experience with that brand
That's a bit overkill for a core duo e8400 don't you think? I would assume that if they are wanting a gaming PC then they might have bought something a little more modern.

Overkill? Not at all. He's going to be CPU limited no matter what GPU he selects. FYI I have an E8400 build running a GTX 285 and that GPU is on par with a modern 1030.

So, if you agree the CPU is going to be the limiting factor, why suggest a gpu that's over budget when one half the price will work just as well on that machine?

Two reasons: even if he's CPU bound, a GTX 1030 is newer and faster and will still perform better. I see no point in saving the cost of two McDonald's meals with a two year old and slower GPU.
