I'm currently looking to build my first PC with in the next few months or so, so i've been looking at what parts i want to get. and currently ive decided on a Intel Core i5 8400 for the CPU and a Evga GTX 1060 6gb sc for the GPU, but am not sure if its a balanced combo. I also want to add that my budget its around $1000 to $1100

Solution
It's balanced for 1080p gaming. Give some thought to the size, resolution, and type of monitor you plan to use. Right now prices are high on videocards and DDR4 ram, so you will be paying a premium. Hopefully by the time you're ready to buy things will be more reasonable.

Agreed. A Corsair cx550W would be in line with that PC's budget and needs. There is https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ with which you can work out some kinks.

yeah for now i plan to just do 1080p, but would like to do 1440p, do you think this will handle 1440p? also im aware of the high prices for GPUs and DDR4 ram at this current time, its quite unfortunate

With reduced settings it's okay. 1440p is better suited for a 1070. 1440 144Hz? GTX 1080 or better.

I just threw this together https://pcpartpicker.com/list/s2y7TB, i kind of just threw in some cheaper ram that matches the colors im going for (black and red). i know msi has a 1060 that matches the color scheme, but its like 50$ more expensive, and i don't know if it performs better

Faster RAM clocked at 3000 Mhz. Mobo has wifi built in and is better. Use the stock cooler, it will be good enough for the 8400. You need a better PSU, and this one has a quality unit.
