My computer will not run. It was working fine until I started to smell a burning smell coming from the computer. After that it never worked again or the fans would spin for half a second and go off again. I took it to a shop and they used their own power supply. The computer worked for a few seconds but the guy said after that their was smoke coming out from their monitor. I would like anyone's input on what would be going on? Is it my motherboard? Graphics Card? PSU? I want to know if any parts are salvageable. Thank you for any input in advance!

Wow! A smoking monitor!? Are you sure? Wasn´t it the motherboard?
Have you asked the guys in the shop what parts are faulty except for the power supply they replaced?

In normal cases you get a working PC and swap parts into it from the old one to test them. Drives (HDD, SSD), graphics cards and extension cards usually work in other systems, you can reuse the case as well if you like it. The rest really depends.

It's a possiblity the repair guy was smoking something. I wouldnt get into the power supply. You can look for discolored spots around the mobo and connectors. Also you could look for swollen/leaking capacitors. Either way, If it's out dated it's probably trash anyway. I wouldn't risk hooking the power supply to anything new.
