Good Afternoon you hardware junkies!!!!

As the title states, I am looking to build a budget gaming rig utilizing a GTX 960.
I'm building a PC for my 10 year old nephew so he can play Fortnite and PUBG, and a handful of less demanding Steam games.

The GTX960 is mine currently and runs both Fortnite and PUBG decently well. Me donating the card to his build is really just an excuse for me to upgrade.

So, what I'm looking for is a Mobo, CPU and RAM. I have all other components needed including the aforementioned GTX 960, a case, SSD, HD, and OS.

I'm trying to keep Mobo, CPU and RAM under $400 total. I want to build him something that is up-gradable so I would prefer a CPU socket that has a wide range of processors and a board that would still be usable down the road with the addition of more RAM and a better GPU.

Let me know your opinions.

I ended up finding a good combo deal with the i3-8100 and a GIGABYTE Z370P D3 mobo. I have a nice ZALMAN cpu cooler that did not fit my last build that will be more than adequate.

Thanks for the suggestions Zerk2012, your data led me down the path I needed to go.
