I have found Canon All-in-Ones to be very reliable. Using the MX870 and have other family member using the MX922.
However, my recommendation is that you visit whatever stores you can and physically look at, touch, feel, and overall examine the printer products being offered. Check the ink cartridge costs while doing so.
(Do be aware that the ink cartridge prices may be reduced during printer sales. After the printer sale ends the ink cartridges go up again.)
Identify two or three printers that you like. Then go online and read both professional product reviews and verified buyer reviews.
Go to the printer's manufacturer's web site: read the printer's User Guide/Manual. Check the Forums and FAQs to learn what people are have problems with or asking questions about. Pay attention to what is not "said" as much as what "is said".
You will probably be able to make a decision at that point. Hopefully the desired printer is within your budget. If not, it may be worth going beyond your printer budget. Try to make up the difference by saving elsewhere.
