Hi Guys,

As the title suggests my PC randomly will boot to onboard Graphics. To be clear I have the Display port cable in the gpu and the PC will boot. Nothing will be displayed. Will pull the cable out and plug it into the Mobo and boom I have a display.

After a handful of reboots, clearing Cmos and changing the PCI slot the Gpu will be selected.

Been over a year like this.. But normally after a successful boot it will work for months. Last night I couldn't get it to find the gpu at all.

Do you think this is caused by the Gpu? Motherboard? Psu?

Win10
Gtx 980ti
I7 6700k

All drivers are up to date

have you installed the GPU in the primary (1st) PCIE slot ? The motherboards official site will show you which one is the primary slot or check the manual. Secondly you should reset the BIOS to get it to use the dedicated GPU or change it manually in the bios settings.

I have had the Gpu working in both PCI slots. Never seen a difference in performance. As I mentioned resetting the Bios and changing the PCI slot normally gets the PC to recognise the Gpu. However this time none of these seem to be working. At work so I can't remember exactly what the integrated graphics setting says on the bios but I did try all the options

PCI and PCIE are two different slots . GPUs are installed in a PCIE slot. You should check the bios to see if PCIE slots are given preference over the others and change it accordingly .

Pretty ironic that I came home today and booted the PC with the display port in the Mobo and the damn thing decides to send the signal through the Gpu. It's very strange. I was just really hoping someone might off had a similar problem and knew if it was the Psu, gpu or the Mobo thats causing this issue

Nevermind went back to not selecting the GPU.. I'm stomped. I'm going to test the Gpu at a friend's house tomorrow. If its not the Gpu I'm guessing it's the PSU or maybe the Mobo. I know one thing it's driving me nuts
